Don’t ignore the hints

Last week my mom had taken seriously ill. She was working normally and then suddenly disappeared into her room to relax. For some reason I went into that room a few minutes later. I observed something was wrong. She was covered fully with the sheet and was shivering profusely. I went close to her and pulled out the sheet. Her forehead was burning hot. I quickly put the thermometer into her mouth but it fell off due to the shivering. Her arm-pit temperatures recorded 105.3 degrees farenheit. I was shocked at those readings. Without a moments delay, I called my doctor brother (who was in hospital then) and as advised put a teaspoon full of sugar in her mother, cold-sponged her with cold water to reduce temperature and shivering and when it slightly subsided, I fed her with some food. She was slightly ok for sometime but later started vomiting continuously. She was completely dehydrated and almost lost consciousness. My brother who had reached home by then rushed her to the nearest nursing home and put her on saline. She was on drip from next 2 and half days continuously as she had lost most of the body electrolytes. Now she is at home resting. It will take time for her to recoup and become the normal energetic woman that she has always been. Had it not been for our timely actions we would have lost her that day.

A fortnight ago my sister-in-law lost her eldest brother. He was 42 yrs old. He had a massive heart-attack and left behind his young wife and 3 kids, last one just 2 yrs old. Since a week before his demise he was showing symptoms of frequent breathlessness and excessive discomfort in climbing stairs. No one, not even he, bothered to read these symptoms and take action. A day before his demise he had an attack of fits and was taken to the doctor. Even here all of them ignored to apprise the doctor of those symptoms. An ECG would have revealed the cardiac problem. Neither did they pre-empt nor did they act.

If a family member has an ailment, chronic or acute, never ever ignore it for any reason. Please try and understand it. Go a step further to understand it in totality - reasons, symptoms and implications in short and long run. Symptoms are the hints that the body gives, for us to observe and take actions and these should never be ignored. We all love our family members but those who truly love them are those who understand their physical, mental and emotional problems fully.

Be pro-active to avoid problems and act very fast when problems arise.
